Seek and yee shall find

So week two!

This week has been very much about trying to find things; food, fabric, phone numbers, passports.   They were all found in the end, eventually.  Including the haggis which was a late burns night supper for the chap.  Accompanied with neeps and tatties and for a dash of green some sprouts.

Hmmmm...

Tatties = Potatoes which I like

Neeps = Turnips which I find to very meh

Sprouts = Brussel Sprouts and which *cringe, gag, retch* I despise.

Haggis I've never had...does one eat the entire Haggis or only the inner bit?

Tatties are potatoes, traditionally it should be a red skinned variety but I had new so that's what he got ! You add nutmeg to the mash to go with haggis.

Neeps are suede (or the Swedish turnip for its full reference), in the US it's called a Rutagbaga. It's still a root veggie but I prefer it to turnips (which I can take or mostly leave). For traditional neeps you add ginger (which works really well).

I an not a massive fan of sprouts, the chap is though. I find the trick is not to over cook them and to add a dash of stock to the boiling liquid.

You eat the insides, which is a mix of mince, offal, oats and barley (and therefore celiac death).

Oh and you have a toast to your haggis with a wee dram of whiskey.

The chap had the rest of the haggis the next day fried in slices with scramble egg on cheese muffins.

I love haggis - we had it last night - just with mashed new potatoes (in their skins) and gravy - not exactly traditional but i find nice haggis can be a bit dry without gravy (I'm a MacSween's girl too) - some of the less solubrious ones are well sloppy and made with pork rather than lamb...

Had I not been able to eat it I think the smell would have been enough to put me off. It's very much a love it or think its absolutly vile foodstuffs
